PreS-Gr 3—Laura and Tim, the award-winning Battersby Duo, wrote the 15 silly songs for this fun album. Inspired by the artistic creativity of youngsters in a kindergarten class, each tune has color related to it in some way. Most of them are performed in a 60s folk/rock style, with some blues and jazz included. Tim enhances the album with his entertaining British, Cockney, Scottish, and other accents. Bagpipes, harmonica, kazoo, and xylophone join with guitars, piano, and drums to give the songs extra pizzazz. In "Buttercup the Bovine," a person thinks that his cow is a cat. Other songs include "Bumble Bee Blues," "Color Me Eric," "The Citrus Song," "Elephant's Toenails," and others. and cover topics such as painting, reading, the alphabet, and riding bikes. In April 2008 they performed to 1200 preschool children as part of The Savannah Music Festival in historic downtown. In addition they've performed at The Kennedy Center, Wolf- trap The Spoleto Festival in Charleston, the Fairfax Fair, The Minnesota State Fair, The Indiana State Fair, The Marcus Center in Milwaukee  The Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, and TV shows on CBS, ABC, NBC and Fox Networks. The Battersby Duo perform in  Schools and Libraries around the US. They are members of NARAS and ASCAP and live quietly on the Gulf of Mexico.

    Goofy wacky and whimsical are all adjectives to describe the musical antics of The Battersby Duo.   Tim and Laura have been performing together for 25 years. They proudly write songs for the Under 10 set. Colors, and Counting, Centipedes and Snails, Germs and Toenails are the foundation for their silly tales. They use music as a metaphor for rainbows and sunshine. Alliteration is second nature to them. Much of their work involves helping young minds succeed academically and developmentally. Rhythm stimulates cognitive function in young children. Repetitive motion and repetition of color names, numbers and letters develop memory skills.

Ms Laura looks up.  As Educators, we all recognize that nothing in the curriculum is more important to a Child's Early Education than those experiences, which reinforce the learning of literacy. Not just reading, but writing, thinking, talking, listening, and creating. All of these skills and concepts are crucial to the educational, psychological, and social well being of the young Student. Efforts to understand, and affirm all students, and to treat their cultural and linguistic backgrounds as valid and important should be reflected in every facet of everyday life.

   In the past 30 years The BatDuo have written over 400 songs. Many of them are, as School Library Journal recently  noted, goofy wacky and Now that's a shirtwhimsical," but they have also composed more serious music for film. In 1978, long before it was "cool to be green" Tim composed the music for an environmental movie entitled The Last Chance. This movie was funded by The Smithsonian Institute, and shown at  both The National Zoo and the San Diego Zoo for  many years. It also aired on ABC in the summer of 1979

The newest addition to The BatHouse is a Custom built Gibson Hummingbird ( seen here as the background). It has a Fishman Matrix Infinity pickup and a Fishman Aura Acoustic Imaging pedal. Gibbo has a tight grain Sitka spruce top and rosewood back and sides. The exquisite inlays are all handcrafted by Gibson Luthiers  at the Gibson Custom Shop in Bozeman Montana. This beauty joins our collection of 2 Taylor 8 series models and a 1986 Guild JF 30 maple body from the Westerly Rhode Island plant.
